Maybe this makes sense to someone else, but I was certainly caught off guard. Maryland continues to baffle me (and I moved here from Florida).

I had a belt I loved and got overseas in 2002. I broke the metal buckle. I decided I was going to fix it using some JB Weld or something similar to fix the metal components.

I went to Home Depot in Annapolis. I went to the Glue section: Nope. Plumbing? Negative. So where the hell is it!? Oh...there’s an employee.

Me: Hi, I am trying to find JB Weld
Employee: JB Weld....what is that?
Me: ...Well, it is basically super glue for metal
Employee: Ooooo...yeah, it is next to the windshield wipers
Me: ....the windshield wipers?
Employee: Yep! Follow me
Me: ....so it is.....yeah, I never would’ve looked here.

First of all...Home Depot carries Windshield wipers?! Are they Wal-Mart now?! And WHY IS THE JB WELD OVER HERE?! Maybe the Boat section (if they have one...they likely do...), but not the car section! I’m a car guy and I never would’ve considered this.

Yup, HD sells car stuff. I will occasionally go there for car wax as it usually gets discounted pretty deep, as no one realizes HD sells car stuff.

JB Weld is near the adhesives in the paint department at every HD near me.

Lived in MD for years and the JB was near gorilla glue and all the rest at my local Depot I believe. Sure as hell not with windshield wipers LOL

Should be in the paint department like the rest of the adhesives. I've never seen an HD or Lowe's do it differently...BUT these other, newer areas (like auto and home cleaning) are huge moneymakers for them, so items are often cross-merchandised there. It pisses me off. Your item should be in one location so I know what you selection is.

Well, what would you use to glue your windshield wipers to the windshield? I mean, it’s exposed to the weather and the wind, so you need a really durable adhesive.

I believe it’s technically epoxy

Indeed, but she didn’t know what it was so do I explain it is an epoxy adhesive or super glue for metal?

Ah, sadly I think that’s the better one. The one (near Jalapeño’s the best Mexican place in town) is so much worst

Well, if you see a gray E92 looking vaguely lost crusing around West Street, that is likely me! I also need to wash said E92 today as it is gathering as much pollen and seagull shit as possible this week.

The maritime autowash is good and not terribly expensive

First off, welcome to my state of origin, where everything is made up and nothing has any meaning.

Secondly, THE JB WELD DOES NOT BELONG WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS! As a former Home Depot stock boy, this angers me. It should be with the adhesives, which is in the center aisle behind the paint counter. And yes, some Home Depots carry a limited amount of automotive stuff. They keep doing this, then abandoning it, then coming back to it, like they can’t make up their minds if it’s profitable or not.

Also, if you have any questions or are looking for things to do in the Old Line State, I’m always happy to help. I don’t know my way around Annapolis too well, I grew up in Frederick, but I’ve been through a few times and crossed back and forth all over the state plenty of times, and still go back to Frederick basically every weekend.

I can’t wait to leave...but I appreciate your offer. I will keep it in mind.

Everytime I get on a plane to return to Maryland it feels like I am paying the Boatman to take me across the River Styx and back to Hell.

What are you in Maryland for? School? Work? And how long are you going to be there?

Work, I had an amazing job offer, but when I got here I realized my terrible mistake. The job isn’t what was listed, my boss quit as did 50% of my staff upon my arrival and no one has been replaced.

I am here until I can find a new place to be assigned in the Organization, or quit and go elsewhere on my own.

That really sucks. I hope you can get transferred out or find something better.

I had something similar happen to me with the job I’m at currently. I’m an engineer, and the job was supposed to be doing marine propulsion work. I got hired, and put in the HVAC section because “propulsion is really slow right now, but we’ll get you going on that as soon as we have work there.” Then the guy who hired me quit, as did the other junior HVAC engineer, so it’s just me and the senior engineer who everyone in the entire company hates because he’s the biggest pain in the ass. And 2 years later, I’m still here but constantly looking for something better. But at least I have a decent job, which is more than I can say for some of my friends I graduated with.

That aside, Maryland isn’t really all that bad of a place, other than the awful drivers. Then again, I think that’s really an entire east coast thing. I’ve lived from South Carolina up to Connecticut and they are always bad, everywhere. But there’s a ton of stuff to do in and around MD, especially if you like the outdoors. You’re right on the water to go boating, fishing, etc. And there are lots of places to go camping, hunting, hiking, etc., especially as you head towards the western part of the state. You’re also near DC, which is a fun city, lots of concerts, events, museums, and misc. other stuff to do. As for the car scene, Annapolis is supposed to have a really good Cars & Coffee, and there’s also supposed to be a good one in Burtonsville. If you ever feel like beating the sun up, we have a great one here in Great Falls, VA, but it’s about an hour and a half drive. There’s only a couple of race tracks left in MD or nearby, but if you look around you can find some.
